Our Story

Where Elegance Meets Canadian Hospitality

Historic Windsor Inn Lobby

A Legacy Born in 1887

Look, we're not gonna pretend we just opened last week. The Windsor Inn's been standing on Quinthale Boulevard for over a century, and honestly, the walls could tell stories we probably shouldn't repeat at dinner parties.

Built by Sir Edmund Carrington during Toronto's golden age, this place started as his family estate. Back then, Quinthale Boulevard was where the city's movers and shakers lived, and Edmund wanted a mansion that'd make folks stop and stare. Mission accomplished, we'd say.

By 1923, the Carrington family converted it into an inn - they figured sharing the beauty beat keeping it all to themselves. Smart thinking, if you ask us.

The Restoration That Changed Everything

We'll be straight with you - by the 1980s, the old girl was looking pretty rough around the edges. Years of well-meaning but misguided renovations had covered up a lot of the original charm.

Then the Morrison family bought the property in 1994 and spent three years bringing her back to life. They uncovered original crown moldings, restored the hand-carved banisters, and found stained glass windows that'd been hidden behind drywall for decades. Can you believe that?

What we've got now is the best of both worlds - that gorgeous Victorian architecture mixed with everything modern travelers actually need. No drafty windows or creaky floorboards here, just the charm without the hassle.

The Heart Behind the Heritage

Our team's been with us for years - some even decades. They're the real reason guests keep coming back.

Catherine Sterling

Catherine Sterling

General Manager

Catherine's been running the Windsor for 18 years, and there's not much she hasn't seen. Started as front desk staff back in '06 and worked her way up. She remembers guests' names, their favorite rooms, even how they take their morning coffee. That's just how she rolls.

Marcus Chen

Marcus Chen

Executive Chef

Marcus came to us from Vancouver's top restaurants, but he says the Windsor feels like home. He's obsessed with local ingredients and changes the menu with the seasons. Fair warning - his maple-glazed duck will ruin you for other restaurants.

James Whitfield
James Whitfield

Head Concierge

25 years at the Windsor. James knows Toronto like the back of his hand and somehow gets reservations at places that are "fully booked."

Priya Sharma
Priya Sharma

Spa & Wellness Director

Priya designed our spa program from scratch. Her philosophy? Real relaxation doesn't need fancy gimmicks, just skilled hands and quality products.

Sophie Laurent
Sophie Laurent

Events Director

Sophie's planned everything from intimate weddings to corporate conferences for 500+. She's got backup plans for the backup plans, which is exactly what you want.

What Makes Us Different?

Honestly, it's not rocket science. We're just a bunch of people who genuinely care about this place and the folks who stay here.

Yeah, we've got the heritage architecture and the fancy amenities, but that stuff's just the setting. What really matters is that when you walk through our doors, you're not just another booking number. You're a guest in what we consider our second home.

We've had couples celebrate their 50th anniversary in the same room where they spent their wedding night. Business travelers who request the same suite every month because it "just feels right." Families who've been coming here for three generations.

Looking Ahead

We're not the type to rest on our laurels just because we've been around since the 1880s. Every year, we're finding ways to get better while keeping what makes us special.

This year, we completed a massive sustainability upgrade - geothermal heating, solar panels on the carriage house, the whole nine yards. Not because it's trendy, but because we wanna be around for another 137 years, and that means taking care of the planet.

We've also started partnering with local artists to rotate exhibitions in our public spaces. Nothing fancy, just giving talented folks a place to show their work while making the hotel feel more connected to the neighborhood.
